Mercedes-Benz marked two milestones in Singapore today with the opening of Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore at Gardens by the Bay and the local debut of the all-new electric GLC.

The Studio is the first Mercedes-Benz Studio in Southeast Asia and will serve as a public-facing destination combining automotive experiences, lifestyle events and creative collaborations. It will open to visitors on 2 September 2026.

The spotlight today, however, was firmly on the all-new electric GLC.

As Mercedes-Benz’s bestselling SUV model globally, the GLC’s move from internal combustion to electric power makes it one of the brand’s most significant product launches in recent years.

Unlike some earlier Mercedes-Benz EVs, the latest GLC was developed from the outset as a dedicated electric vehicle, underpinned by the new MB.EA-M platform and an 800V electrical architecture.

Singapore-bound GLC400 4MATIC electric models will deliver 360kW and 800Nm through a dual-motor all-wheel drive system.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the SUV achieves a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 210km/h. A two-speed transmission on the rear axle is claimed to balance performance with efficiency.

The SUV draws power from a 94.4kWh NMC battery, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 687km. Its 800V system supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW, allowing the battery to be replenished from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz also claims the GLC can recover up to 305km of range in just 10 minutes at a suitable high-power charging station.

Visually, the electric GLC introduces a new design direction for Mercedes-Benz. It is the first model to feature the brand’s redesigned illuminated grille, made up of 942 illuminated elements surrounding a lit Mercedes-Benz star.

Star-shaped lighting signatures also feature in the head lamps and taillamps, while flush-fitting door handles and optimised aerodynamics help deliver a drag coefficient of 0.26.

Using a dedicated EV platform has also brought packaging benefits. An 84mm longer wheelbase creates additional passenger space, while a 570-litre rear boot expands to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded.

A 128-litre frunk provides extra storage for charging cables, small bags or everyday essentials — a feature becoming increasingly common among premium electric SUVs.

Inside, the GLC introduces Mercedes-Benz’s latest MB.OS operating system and fourth-generation MBUX infotainment platform. Depending on trim level selected, buyers will get either the MBUX Superscreen layout or the new 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen.

Artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google is integrated into the system, supposedly enabling more natural voice interactions and contextual assistance through the MBUX Virtual Assistant.

Also new in the GLC is the Sky Control panoramic roof that’s comprised of nine individual segments. Users can select from one of three settings (Clear, Opal, Motif), or adjust each segment separately to create a unique pattern.

The glass is made up of eight different layers to insulate passengers from the heat in hot weather, but in cooler climates, it works to reflect warmth back into the cabin as well.

The all-new electric GLC is now available in Singapore, with prices starting from $378,888 for the AMG Line and $412,888 for the AMG Line Sport.
