Martin Short reportedly called a friend to check on his daughter, Katherine Short, before she was tragically found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound and left a suicide note.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, the comedian reached out to a friend to check on her, after he hadn’t heard from his daughter in over 24 hours, reports TMZ.
The investigators wrote that upon entering Katherine’s home, the friend discovered a note on her locked bedroom door which prompted them to call 911.
After police arrived, they forced their way into the bedroom where they discovered the star’s daughter’s body, lying in her bed with a Glock 19 9mm pistol by her chest.
The autopsy report also alleges that Katherine had a previous suicide attempt in 2017 involving pills. She also had a documented history of mental illness and depression.
A rep for Martin did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
As we previously reported, Katherine died by an apparent suicide in February. She was 42 years old.
“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a rep for the “Only Murders in the Building” star, 76, confirmed to Page Six at the time.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
Martin later addressed the death in his May interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” calling it a “nightmare” for his family.
“But the understanding [is] that mental health and cancer, like my wife’s, are both diseases, and sometimes with diseases they are terminal,” Short added, referring to his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died in 2010.
“And my daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, other things, and did the best she [could] until she couldn’t,” Short added
