She went from eating her lipstick at the MTV VMA’s to smoking it on magazine covers.
Doja Cat is the face of MAC Cosmetics newly relaunched MACzine, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
The cosmetics company known for its edgy and inclusive ad campaigns, is reintroducing its magazine on Jan. 29, nearly a decade after it folded.
“We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to over the last few months. To start, we’re bringing back MACzine,” MAC’s global creative director Nicola Formichetti said in the issue’s first letter.
The mag, which published in print from 2009 until 2017, is being revived in digital form with Doja Cat appearing to smoke red lipstick on the cover.
The brand described this new iteration in an internal letter obtained by Page Six as a “modern editorial expression of fashion, beauty, culture, and artistry designed to live across platforms and spark inspiration in real time.”
“Back in the day, MACzine was our creative playground. It was where we experimented and brought some of our most daring ideas to life,” Formichetti said.
And that’s where Doja Cat comes in.
The “Paint The Town Red” singer paints her lips red in a 2-minute makeup tutorial video, where she appears bare face – and uncharacteristically serious – as she applies the products and her new lip kit.
Doja Cat explains how she “grew up watching tutorials,” and seemingly took some notes as she describes the blushes and eye pencils she’s using. The singer also applies a lace front wig. The video fast forwards two hours later to reveal the results.
“This is the final look, and I only wear MAC,” Doja Cat says in the video.
“As the world shifts and bold, confident makeup makes it return, this feels like the perfect time to bring it back,” Formichetti said.
“Let’s embrace this new chapter and create the future of beauty together. It’s time to have fun with makeup again,” he concluded in his letter.
