He didn’t want to end up “solo mio.”
Kevin James says finding true love is “tough” and it can be easy to panic about finding a relationship as you get older.
Though the “King of Queens” alum has been happily married to wife Steffiana de La Cruz for over 20 years, James, 60, tells Page Six dating is no walk in the park.
“I guess we all are in a way just kind of searching, you wanna find that one that you connect with and it’s tough,” he told Page Six at the New York premiere of his upcoming rom-com, “Solo Mio,” earlier this week.
The “Hitch” star added that as people age it’s easy to believe they may never find love.
James added, “that’s when you start gripping the back too tight and trying, and it doesn’t work, and you get more panicked.”
However, James, who met his model wife on a blind date and tied the knot in 2004, had some advice for those trying to settle down.
“You gotta let it go,” the comedian shared. “You gotta trust in God and just kind of let it happen, and there’s usually something much better around the corner.
In “Solo Mio,” the “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” star plays Matt Taylor, a man who is dumped at the altar in Rome, and instead of flying back home, chooses to embark on his honeymoon solo.
As he navigates the Eternal City, he “begins a bittersweet journey of self-discovery.”
“I wish it was that,” James laughed when asked if he’d taken the role for a free trip to Italy. “That would be a great way to do it, but you have to have a story, and the story that we came up with and how it developed kept growing,”
James described Italy as an “amazing character in the movie, so it was fun doing it, with the whole crew there.”
He attended the red carpet for the flick with de la Cruz and three of their four kids, daughters Sistine and Sienna, along with son Kannon.
“Solo Mio,” which also stars Alyson Hannigan, hits theaters on Feb. 6.
