Jennie Garth has always been drawn to books that “tell the truth.”
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum told Page Six that truth can be “someone bravely sharing their story, a book that offers life advice right when you need it, or even a fictional story that quietly teaches you something about yourself.”
Garth — whose new memoir, “I Choose Me” is out now — added that her favorite reads always make her “feel less alone, help me grow and stay with me long after I’ve turned the last page.”
See below for Garth’s six must-read book recommendations.
“Writing this book was such a personal journey for me. It’s everything I’ve learned about coming back to myself after life changes, redefining who I want to be, and to keep chasing joy. I wanted it to be honest about motherhood, loss, reinvention, and all the ways we grow through the hard stuff. This is my reminder, and hopefully yours too, that choosing yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. It’s about finding your own purpose, loving yourself fiercely, and having the courage to build a life that truly feels like yours.”
“This book is incredibly honest and vulnerable. He writes about faith, identity, and finding the courage to be true to yourself, even when it’s scary and uncertain. I think anyone who has ever questioned their path or tried to figure out who they really are would connect with his story. It’s ultimately about letting go of who you thought you were supposed to be, and finding who you actually are. I found myself rooting for David the whole time!”
“‘The Pivot Year’ is one of those books that feels like it meets you exactly where you are. It’s made up of short, thoughtful reflections for each day, and I found myself coming back to it whenever I needed a little grounding or a shift in perspective. ‘The Pivot Year’ really speaks to those moments in life when you know in your heart that something needs to change, even if you’re not quite sure what that looks like yet.”
“This book really shifts the way you think about mental health, because instead of always focusing on what’s wrong, it asks you to look at what’s actually going right within you. It talks a lot about understanding yourself, your patterns, and how to build a healthier relationship with your own mind. I loved the idea that we all already have the ability to move toward peace, contentment, and meaning, we just need get curious and ask ourselves how.”
“‘Sister Outsider’ is a beautiful collection of Audre Lorde’s essays and speeches. Reading it really opened my eyes to what it might feel like to walk in her shoes and see the world through her experiences. Her writing is honest, powerful, and really beautiful. It made me slow down to really listen and reflect. I found myself thinking a lot about women everywhere who are interested in exploring their identity, women who are walking with courage, and what it means to truly stand in your truth, even when you feel like an outsider.”
“I never tire of learning about other women and their journeys, and this book is a treasure for that. Clarissa Pinkola Estés dives into myths, stories, and the wildness inside all of us, showing how we can reclaim our instincts, strength, and creativity. Reading it feels like sitting down with a wise friend who reminds you that your untamed self is powerful and necessary. It’s inspiring, deep, and one of those books that stays with you forever.”
