Country singer Chris Young certainly had a Father’s Day weekend to remember after experiencing a scary travel surprise.

“Flying in to Nashville to see my Dad for Father’s Day….Brake failure on the plane,” Young, 41, wrote via Instagram on Monday, June 22. “Luckily had some amazing pilots. Ended up landing safely. Thank you Lord, the fire department and the men up front.”

The musician, known for hit songs like “Famous Friends” and “I’m Comin’ Over,” confirmed to fans that he wouldn’t let the incident stop him from flying in the future.

In a separate Instagram Story, Young confirmed that the show goes on as he teased upcoming concerts in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, June 25, and Fort Bliss, Texas, on Saturday, June 27.

While details surrounding Young’s specific airplane incident are limited, Monroe Aerospace claims most commercial airplanes fly at a speed of roughly 500 to 600 mph. When landing, however, they must reduce their speed to about 160 to 170 mph. Upon touching the runway, airplanes must quickly brake until they come to a complete stop.

Travel stories aside, Young has shared glimpses into the bond he shares with his dad, Michael Harris. In December 2021, the country singer celebrated the holidays by surprising him with a new Chevrolet truck.

“My dad has been driving the same truck for well over a decade,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “I decided he needed a new one this year. I love you dad!”

Young’s love and appreciation for Harris even inspired a song called “Just Keep Living.”

“I wrote this about my dad’s battle with cancer. And he beat it, kicked its ass and he is still hanging, he’s had two heart attacks,” Young recalled to Apple Music in October 2025. “This guy is just like, ‘That wall over there, I’m just going to walk through it.’ Old country guy, Dale Earnhardt mustache. But I love my dad, and I actually had to call him because this was so personal. I was like, ‘Are you sure you’re OK with me putting all this out there into the world?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’”
