Not only that, but some fans also burst crackers on the streets and outside theatres to enjoy the day as a big celebration in the state. The actor’s 1999 Tamil movie Padayappa has been re-released in theatres on December 12.

Several celebrities, like Mohanlal, Dhanush, Kamal Haasan and others have extended birthday wishes to Rajinikanth. Political personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also extended greetings to the superstar.

Padayappa re-release

In the era of digitisation, Rajinikanth chose not to sell the streaming rights of Padayappa to any OTT platforms. As reported by India Today, the actor believes the film is meant to be experienced only in theatres and not on small screens.

Earlier, Rajinikanth said, “I did not give the rights to any telecast player, despite multiple requests. I wanted people to watch it only on the big screen. It should be a kondattam (celebration) for fans on my 50th year in cinema, being the producer and writer of the film.”

Padayappa revolves around a man who slowly and steadily rebuilds his life after his father passed away. But life had some other plans, as when stability and success returned, his old rival stepped in. They are determined to crush his happiness. However, like any other hero, he changed to save himself from any challenges that created a blockage in his path. The Tamil movie stars Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Soundarya, Nassar, Ramesh Khanna and Prakash Raj in key roles. The film has been written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. The movie has been backed by P. L. Thenappan, Vittal Prasad. Padayappa has a runtime of 3 hours and 1 minute.
