Local actress-model Chen Yixin has packed her bags for Paris.
The 26-year-old revealed the move in a video posted to social media yesterday (Sept 8), titled The (X) in Paris Diaries, in which she spoke from her new room about what prompted her to embark on this new chapter.
“For the longest time I kept most of myself to myself. I don’t really like talking to the camera, just because so much of my personal life is discussed,” she said.
“I didn’t want to give any more ammunition to be picked apart. I really wanted to be accepted and not give anyone any reason to talk about me.”
Yixin is the daughter of veteran actress Xiang Yun and former actor Edmund Chen. Her 35-year-old brother Chen Xi is also a local actor.
Having grown up in the limelight with a digital footprint, Yixin explained that it was not ideal for a young girl, adding that she was “very sensitive to unnecessary noises” which affected her greatly.
“Maybe there’s a part of me that is acting up, just because I put so much pressure on myself,” she said.
“I started to realise that I didn’t feel as connected to my content as I used to. There are so many more things that I want to share, but I just don’t dare and I don’t know how to,” she added.
She shared that she wants to build a community around her that “loves and knows me for who I am”, while building her confidence and now choosing to put her life on the internet.
Her main goal? “I wanna find out what my life could look like somewhere new,” she said.
She added in her video she has no friends in Paris and local actress Chantalle Ng wrote in the comments: “All the best Yixin! Go find Sharon Au.”
The former actress-host, who moved to Paris in 2018, replied: “Wow and yay! Auntie Sharon is here,” tagging Yixin’s parents with Xiang Yun expressing her gratitude.
Yixin also shared in an Instagram Story today that she created a new YouTube channel to document her new chapter in life.
She wrote: “Some of you might remember my old one (IYKYK) hahaha, but I wanted to start fresh for this new chapter.”
Yixin previously appeared with Xiang Yun in an episode of the YouTube talk show DNA, where celebrity parents and their children chat with actress-host Rebecca Lim.
She shared that she was ostracised during her school days and used to struggle with processing her emotions over why people felt “entitled” to her private matters.
Yixin, who felt that it was partially her own thoughts, said: “I withdrew myself from a lot of people because I felt like they knew more about me than I did about them.”
