Local actress Bonnie Loo thought babysitting a young child for a day would be a relatively easy task. She soon realised it was easier said than done.

In the latest episode of the YouTube series Dad Can Not? released yesterday (Sept 9), the 32-year-old took on babysitting duties for one-year-old Toto, the daughter of content-creating couple Hubert Ng and Yihru, better known as Bert and Lulu.

Although it is not her first time meeting Toto, Bonnie admitted: “Actually, I have no confidence at all… But I think it won’t be too bad because I’ve met Toto multiple times, so I didn’t overthink it.”

She also brought matching T-shirts for herself and Toto to wear during the baby’s snack time.

Bert and Lulu left six Post-It notes on the wall with instructions and tips on the baby’s schedule and how to care for her, such as managing naps, changing diapers, making milk and preparing snacks.

During Toto’s snack time, Bonnie sat the toddler in a baby chair and prepared a yoghurt snack. She had forgotten the bib but quickly realised she needed it when Toto spat out her water.

Reflecting on the moment later, Bonnie said she felt “totally pranked” by the child.

Her next mission was to dress Toto up and take nice photos of her, with a wide selection of outfits laid out on the couch.

However, Toto’s excitement made it difficult for Bonnie to take even one photo that met her standards. Despite Bonnie’s valiant efforts, all she got was a smack to the face.

Bonnie said: “I thought this section should be the easiest. How hard can changing clothes be for girls? Who knew taking an aesthetic photo was this hard?”

She eventually “realised it was impossible” and settled for taking simple, candid photos instead.

Making the milk was the easiest task of the day, Bonnie said, recalling that she used to do it for her younger sister and still remembered the process.

Since the dispenser and measurements were preset, Bonnie smoothly made the milk. However, the toughest challenge was getting Toto to drink it.

After multiple attempts to feed the little girl, Bonnie was at her wits’ end: “I thought feeding milk would be the easiest! How could I know it’s the hardest? She doesn’t even want one sip.”

Bert and Lulu finally made their entrance to spare Bonnie from her struggles and commended her for her efforts, but the latter wasn’t convinced.

“But I failed leh. Can’t get to feed her milk. Can’t dress her up for photo shoots. All failed! Very tough leh,” she said. The in-video text read: “I failed everything!”

The couple offered words of comfort and praised Bonnie for her patience with Toto.

They then had a sweet surprise in store for Bonnie, whose birthday was the following week. Lulu disappeared into the kitchen for a quick moment before emerging with a cake.

Caught off-guard, Bonnie teared up.

“I never expected it, I never thought of this before. I shouldn’t be the main character today… Why is there a surprise for me here today? I find it very sweet,” she said.

Wrapping up the segment, Bonnie took out an ang bao for Toto with a few well-wishes written on it.

She also shared a video on Instagram today with the text reading: “Challenging babysitting for a day.”

“I think it’s difficult to handle the baby’s emotions, she’s still not very used to me,” she said in the clip.

Toto is seen lying on her back while peacefully sipping her milk as Bonnie remarks: “Why didn’t you drink your milk just now?”
