Billie Eilish helped replace a Los Angeles wildfire victim’s lost t-shirt with the help of Meghan Markle this week.
The duchess shared the story on social media, saying in a video that she found a girl who lost her home in the Eaton Fire while visiting Altadena with her husband, Prince Harry, in January. The girl had lost a beloved t-shirt from one of Eilish’s concerts. Markle said she doesn’t know Eilish, but connected with the singer through Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo.
Instead of replacing the t-shirt, Eilish sent a robust care package of clothing, merchandise and a signed record for the girl, who Markle said was 15 years old.
“To everyone who is showing up for people in big and small ways to get through what’s happened in California, just thank you so much,” Markle said. In the caption, she also thanked first responders.
The gift comes on the heels of Eilish — a native Angeleno — performing at last week’s FireAid benefit concert, which ran for six hours between the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome and raised an estimated $100 million for relief from the Palisades and Eaton fires. The funds will be distributed through L.A. non-profit the Annenberg Foundation. Eilish opened the show with a Green Day duet, and later returned for a solo set which included “Wildflower” and “Birds of a Feather.”
On Sunday, Eilish also performed at the Grammys, where she sang her hit “Birds of a Feather” and told the crowd, “I love you L.A.”
Markle returned to social media at the start of this year following a five-year hiatus. The Instagram account, launched the first week of January, now has 1.6 million followers.
After three weeks, the Palisades and Eaton fires both reached 100 percent containment last week. At least 29 people were killed.
