Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Maddox has officially dropped his famous father’s last name.
On Monday, a Los Angeles judge granted the 25-year-old’s petition to legally change his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
“There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” the Sept. 14 minute order states.
“The Decree is signed and filed,” the order continues. “The Petitioner’s name is changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.”
Maddox appeared remotely for Monday morning’s hearing alongside his attorney, Peter Kenneth Levine, according to the filing.
Judge Virginia Keeny presided over the hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court’s Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
The decision comes two months after Page Six reported that Maddox and his sister Zahara had taken out newspaper advertisements announcing their respective petitions to legally drop “Pitt” from their surnames.
The newspaper publication was a required step in California’s legal name-change process and gave anyone opposing the request an opportunity to file an objection ahead of the hearing.
Maddox initially filed his petition in May, listing the reason for the requested change as “personal.”
However, he had already begun publicly going by his mother’s surname months earlier.
Maddox was credited as “Maddox Jolie” for his work as an assistant director on Jolie’s film “Couture” when it was released in France in February.
He had previously used his full name, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, when he worked as an executive producer on his mother’s 2024 Maria Callas biopic, “Maria.”
Maddox is not the only one of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to distance themselves from their father’s surname.
In May 2024, sister Shiloh successfully petitioned a Los Angeles court to legally remove “Pitt” from her last name after turning 18.
Meanwhile, Zahara filed her own petition this year to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie.
The 21-year-old is scheduled to have her name-change hearing on Sept. 28.
She had already been using “Jolie” publicly, including when she graduated from Spelman College in May and was announced onstage as Zahara Marley Jolie.
In July, just days after her 18th birthday, Vivienne submitted paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Marcheline Bertrand is the name of Jolie’s late mom, who died in 2007 after a battle with ovarian and breast cancer.
She had also publicly used her mother’s surname. The teen was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” while working alongside her mother on the Broadway production of “The Outsiders” in 2024.
As previously reported, Knox dropped “Pitt” from his last name on his high school diploma.
The teenager, who turned 18 on July 12, used the name Knox Jolie on his certificate after graduating from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles, a source exclusively told Page Six at the time.
The “Fight Club” star, 62, finalized his long-running divorce from Angelina in December 2024, bringing an end to more than eight years of legal proceedings. Angelina filed to dissolve their marriage in September 2016.
