AMC Theatres has hiked its pricing for Stubs A-list, the cinema chain’s monthly movie subscription membership.
From May 7, the monthly A-list membership for film fanatics will jump from $24.95 to $27.99 in New York and California, and pricing elsewhere will range from $19.99 to $25.99 per month, depending on the U.S. state.
Stubs A-list will, however, allow four movie visits a week, up from the current limit of three online reservations. The AMC Stubs A-List program is aimed at avid moviegoers, and allows members to see Hollywood tentpoles in all premium formats, including Imax and Dolby Cinema.
The age limit for Stubs A-list, AMC’s movie ticket rewards program, is also being dropped to 13 years and older, to encourage more family visits to the local multiplex. And AMC is launching AMC Stubs A-List Classic, priced at $14.95 per month as the more affordable plan allows guests to view one movie every week at qualifying AMC theaters.
Encouraging moviegoers to return to the multiplex via reward programs has long been a key and increasing driver of revenues for major exhibitors.
“Even with this necessary price adjustment, in most cases the cost of an A-List membership will be less than seeing two movies per month as a non-member, especially so if you see a movie in our premium formats and/or buy your tickets online,” AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron said in a statement on Thursday.
The A-List membership also comes with ongoing benefits like free ticket reservations online, priority lane access, free popcorn and fountain drink size upgrades and $5 rewards for every $50 spent on tickets and concessions.
