Alexander Skarsgård is completely transformed into Wicker Husband in the first look at his and Olivia Colman’s upcoming film, “Wicker.”
In the film’s trailer, released on Thursday, Colman’s Fisherwoman character asks the local Basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, to weave her a spouse.
The wild teaser kicked off with the unconventional couple hooking up before backing up to show the “single and stinky” Fisherwoman’s decision — and the townspeople’s reactions.
“Most male actors dream of playing Hamlet at some point in their career. I never did,” Skarsgård, 49, told the outlet of his role, quipping that his “dream was always to have nipples made out of wicker.”
The actor gushed, “Thanks to our wonderful directors, Eleanor and Alex, and the brilliant artists at Wētā in New Zealand, my dream has finally come true.”
Colman, 52, dubbed her co-star “breathtaking” in the prosthetics since he is “funny, intelligent, and beautiful anyway.”
The “Crown” alum continued, “Everything is exaggerated; he’s a work of art. Alex fills the Wicker Husband with a beautiful soul.”
She raved over her own character as well, saying, “I loved the Fisherwoman. She’s the only one not toeing the line.”
Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson noted that “it’s really the marriage of [Skarsgård’s] prosthetic and performance that sells the whole” movie, which will premiere in select theaters on Oct. 23 and be widely released the following week.
“Alex’s performance, while incredibly nuanced and understated, was very technically and physically challenging,” the duo added.
While they had “anxiety” about this, “once he was walking and talking as the Wicker Husband, we knew the spectacle, the romance, the whole heart of the movie was in safe hands.”
The pair called the sex scenes “fun” to choregraph with Ita O’Brien, “the godmother of intimacy coordinating.”
“These scenes definitely required some of the most detailed prep of all of the movie — they were very specific in the script, and every shot was boarded, rehearsed, and reboarded ahead of time,” Fischer and Wilson said. “Of course, the wicker suit added to the dynamic.”
The film’s cast also includes Colman’s fellow “Crown” cast member Elizabeth Debicki as the Tailor’s Wife.
“Wicker” is adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones’ 2016 short story “The Wicker Husband,” which inspired a 2020 musical.
Social media users had a heyday with the footage, with one tweeting, “One thing the Skarsgards will do is play a weird creature.”
Another wrote via X that it’s “refreshing to see a weird original concept for once,” while a third joked, “Honestly, ordering a custom husband from a basket maker sounds way easier than using dating apps at this point.”
