The year 2025 looks quite busy for Akshay Kumar. The actor has already had his first release of 2025 with the movie Sky Force. Now, all eyes are on his next, Kannappa, in which he has a special appearance. A few days ago, the actor dropped a devotional song called Mahakal Chalo. The song is composed by Vikram Montrose and Akshay has crooned the track with Palash Sen and Vikram. Shekhar Astitwa has penned the lyrics of the devotional song. However, the song landed in controversy after it received flak from the netizens.
What caused the controversy was Akshay Kumar hugging the Shivling in the Mahakal Chalo. Recently, at the Kannappa teaser launch, Akshay reacted to the backlash. The OMG 2 actor said, “Aap bataiye ki humein bachpan se bataya sikhaya gaya hai ki Parvati aur Shiv humare mata-pita hain. Aur agar aap unko pyar se hug karte hain, to usme koi burai hai? Agar mer Shakti wahaan se aati hai, aur meri bhakti koi agar koi galat samjhe, to usme mera koi kasoor nahi hai.”
To tell you more about the controversy, the Priests Association accused the actor of “disrespecting” the Sanatan Dharma. The association’s president, Mahesh Sharma, said in a statement, “While the song itself is good, certain scenes are inappropriate. The actor is shown embracing the Shivling while undergoing Panchamrit Abhishek, which is not appropriate. Additionally, Bhasma is being offered incorrectly—only the Ujjain Mahakal is traditionally offered Bhasma, not anywhere else. Creating such depictions on a film set is disrespectful to Sanatan Dharma.”
Meanwhile, along with Kannappa, Akshay will be next seen in Jolly LLB 3, Housefull 5, and Welcome to the Jungle.
