Abbie Chatfield has recalled the moment she discovered that her musician boyfriend Adam Hyde had a dangerous skin cancer removed from his neck.
She spoke about the frightening experience as Adam, 35, appeared on the latest episode of her It’s A Lot podcast to discuss his cancer journey.
Adam said he was in Brisbane recording when he learned about his alarming diagnosis.
Abbie said that after Adam told her the news she started screaming.
‘I called mum, I was like scream crying on the phone. I did freak you out, but I didn’t want to freak you out as much as I was freaked out,’ she recalled.
‘So my assistant was like holding me as I was sobbing.’

Adam, who has a history of skin cancer, said it was the first time he had to receive a general anaesthetic as part of surgery to have the dangerous carcinoma removed.
‘It was horrific,’ Abbie said ‘You had this giant gash in your neck that prevented you from even talking.’
Abbie also recalled an earlier scare when Adam was mistakenly told he had ‘double cancer’ in his neck.
‘I was like ”of course I found the love of my life, and he has double cancer in his neck”,’ she said.
Adam said he was asked to discuss his experience by the Cancer Council, who regularly urge the community to educate themselves about sun safety.
Abbie and Adam celebrated their first anniversary as a couple in March.
On the special day Adam shared his thoughts on his girlfriend online with a sweet tribute.
‘Been a year since years of flirting via friends and telephones, I finally asked the most beautiful, inspiring intelligent, sexy, cute, caring, gentle, determined, strong, soft, hard punk, dreamy, supercharged fun, sleepy Queensland witty, stylish, hot and incredible woman in the world to be my girlfriend’ he said on Instagram.

‘I love you Abbie’ he added, writing the romantic caption on a photo of Abbie’s face cradled in his hand as she beamed at him.
The pair have been the subject of engagement speculation for some time.
The Bachelor star and musician went public with their romance in June of last year and have now teased that things are getting very serious.
Abbie took to her Instagram Stories earlier this year to reveal that wedding bells might be ringing soon for her and Adam.
She told how she has already tried to reserve the Instagram handle ‘Abbie Hyde’, which would be her married name if she and Adam tie the knot.
Abbie confirmed her romance with Adam in June 2024 after weeks of speculation and they have been going strong ever since.
